Tyler Tejada: Towson’s Relentless Worker and Role Model

Tyler Tejada embodies the mantra his coach often repeats—he’s an “everyday guy.” To Tejada, this means giving consistent effort, staying focused, and not allowing distractions to interfere with his growth. Whether it’s showing up early to practice or staying late, Tejada commits himself fully, both mentally and physically, to being his best every day.

At the NCAA Elite Student-Athlete Symposium for Men’s Basketball, Tejada made an impact by simply being observant. He may have spoken little, but his attention to detail was unmatched. During the three-day event, he filled pages with notes, learning not just about the game of basketball, but also how to navigate life off the court, from managing finances to surrounding himself with the right people.

Tejada’s quiet demeanor contrasts with his strong presence on the basketball court. Last season, he earned Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Year honors, averaging 10 points per game as a freshman. His performance and potential earned him an invitation to the Elite Symposium, marking him as a player to watch for a possible future NBA draft.

His assistant coach, Parfait Bitee, described him as a hardworking and efficient player, predicting a bright future ahead for the young athlete. Tejada himself attributes his relentless work ethic to his mother, who taught him that hard work pays off.

Growing up in Teaneck, New Jersey, Tejada draws inspiration from his roots. His goal is to be a role model for kids in his hometown, showing them that success is possible, no matter where they come from. He also aims to inspire other Hispanic athletes, recognizing the importance of representation in basketball and wanting to pave the way for others.

Tejada’s ambitions for the future include leading Towson to the NCAA tournament and continuing to embody the “everyday guy” mentality. He is determined to stick to his principles of hard work, dedication, and remaining true to himself. With his mindset and drive, Tejada’s future in basketball, and beyond, looks incredibly promising.

As Tejada says, “Just keep fighting, keep going every day, because everything works out for itself eventually.” He plans to do just that, both on and off the court.
