Teams Announced for 2024 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship

INDIANAPOLIS — The NCAA Division I Field Hockey Committee has officially unveiled the teams that will compete in the 2024 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. This year’s tournament field includes representatives from 10 conferences, along with eight at-large selections, setting the stage for an exciting postseason.

Ten conferences received automatic qualification, with the four lowest-seeded automatic-qualification teams competing in two opening-round games. The remaining six automatic qualifiers were placed directly into the championship bracket. The conferences and their automatic-qualifying representatives are as follows:

  • America East Conference: Vermont
  • Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC): North Carolina
  • Atlantic 10 Conference: Saint Joseph’s
  • Big East Conference: UConn
  • Big Ten Conference: Michigan
  • Coastal Athletic Association (CAA): Delaware
  • The Ivy League: Harvard
  • Mid-American Conference (MAC): Miami (OH)
  • Northeast Conference: Fairfield
  • Patriot League: Lafayette

In addition to the automatic qualifiers, the committee selected eight teams to join the championship field as at-large bids. These teams are: Boston College, Duke, Maryland, Massachusetts, Northwestern, Princeton, Syracuse, and Virginia.

The tournament will kick off with opening-round games on November 13, held at two of the first- and second-round host sites. First- and second-round games are scheduled for November 15 and 17 at four campus locations. The championship’s final rounds will be hosted by the University of Michigan at the Phyllis Ocker Field Hockey Complex in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The national semifinals will take place on Friday, November 22, followed by the championship final on Sunday, November 24.

Broadcast coverage will include the semifinals streaming live on ESPN+ at Noon and 3 p.m. Eastern time. The championship game will be televised on ESPNU at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time. Fans interested in attending the games can find ticket information at NCAA.com/tickets.

North Carolina enters the tournament as the defending national champion. The Tar Heels secured their 11th NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship title last season with a dramatic 2-1 double-overtime victory over Northwestern on November 19, 2023, at Karen Shelton Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. With a history of dominance, North Carolina will be a team to watch as the field competes for this year’s crown.
