Ohio State’s Michael Adedokun and North Carolina’s Kate Faasse Claim 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy
Ohio State senior midfielder Michael Adedokun and North Carolina junior forward Kate Faasse were honored as the 2024 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy winners at the MAC’s annual banquet on Friday. Adedokun, hailing from Erwua, Nigeria, led both the Buckeyes and the Big Ten Conference with an impressive 33 points, tallying 11 goals and 11 assists as Ohio State advanced to the College Cup semifinals. Meanwhile, Faasse, a Phoenix, Arizona native, spearheaded the Tar Heels’ offense with 44 points, netting a national-best 20 goals and adding four assists to help North Carolina secure its 23rd NCAA National Championship and first title since 2012.

Adedokun, named the 2024 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, played a pivotal role in Ohio State’s remarkable 16-2-4 season. His stellar performance earned him United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America honors, and he was subsequently selected in the first round of the 2024 MLS Super Draft by FC Montreal. The men’s award runners-up included University of Denver senior defender Sam Bassett from Littleton, Colorado, and University of Akron graduate forward Emil Jaaskelainen from Bolton, England.
Faasse demonstrated her prowess throughout the NCAA Tournament, scoring four goals and recording three assists. She delivered clutch performances by scoring game-winning goals in the quarterfinals and semifinals, as well as providing the decisive assist in the third round. Faasse’s outstanding season also earned her United Soccer Coaches First Team All-America recognition. Runners-up for the women’s award were Duke University graduate forward Maggie Graham from Atlanta, Georgia, and Wake Forest University junior forward Caiya Hanks from Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, a prestigious 10-pound crystal soccer ball, has been awarded annually since 1967 to recognize the United Soccer Coaches National Players of the Year in NCAA Division I men’s and women’s soccer. The recipients are determined through a voting process conducted by member coaches.
